A Victorian Maiden or a Edwardian Dame.
I have always been interested in reading books and watching movies on these topics. When I go to Museums or Exhibitions I am always pulled in the direction to these times.
I love the large grand homes and castles, with large lavish gardens and green, green yards. The balls and waltzes. When woman played the piano and all stood around to listen to the bird like trills of them singing.
People sat and ate a large, lovely meal together around the dining room table and talked to one another. They went on picnics or spent the day out by the ocean enjoying the weather. They also had such great manners both at the table and in society.
During that time beautiful clothing were worn by both the men and woman, and the maids and servants were constantly at their bidding. Woman spent lots of time together, sewing, cross stitching, and reading sonnets.
Maybe, it also has to do how the woman didn’t have to work, the men took care of their woman and families. If I was able to not work and stay home and run my lovely home I would be very happy too.
I also love the romantic stories that go along with these era’s. And,,,of course the gossip, adventure and mystery of that time. The passing of messages secretly in little notes or letters sealed with wax and brought to you by special messengers.
One of the only things I really wouldn’t like much is the riding on the horses or carriages,,,I hate the smell of horses and the stuff that comes with them. Living by candle light might be a bit challenging,,,no phones or computers,,,well hmmmm I guess there is good and bad sides to both times.
Anyways,,,weekends away from the new man in my life such as this one,are now a extra special time for me to visit my past life. Today I am watching the BBC Version of Pride and Prejudice it’s a lovely 3-4 hrs of pure historical whimsy that I adore. A perfect Sunday afternoon cuddled up on my bed with a blanket a good movie, glass of red wine and my roommates kitty cats!
